Westmead Mother and Baby Unit

Service Description

The Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) at Westmead Hospital provides specialist mental health care for parents and their babies. Care is holistic, parent- and infant-centred, inclusive of families and carers, and culturally sensitive. The MBU supports parents who are experiencing significant mental health concerns in the perinatal period and are the primary caregiver for their baby (up to 12 months old). Both the parent and baby are admitted together to encourage healthy bonding and reduce the trauma of separation.
