The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) comprises two divisions: The FCFCOA (Division 1) is a continuation of the Family Court of Australia. The FCFCOA (Division 1) is a specialist family law court, a superior court of record, hearing the most complex family law trials and appeals. The FCFCOA (Division 1) sits in each state and territory except Western Australia, where family law matters are heard by a state court, the Family Court of Western Australia. The FCFCOA (Division 2) is a continuation of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia. The FCFCOA (Division 2) is an intermediate trial court and court of record, hearing family, administrative, bankruptcy, industrial relations, migration and trade practices laws. It hears the majority of first instance family law matters. The FCFCOA (Division 2) sits in all Australian states and territories.
