Intensive Support

Service Description

Mentor Program for Young People

Intensive Support is an NDIS Registered Service Provider that runs Mentor and Support Program in the Greater Sydney Area. Since 2003 Intensive Support has provided Mentor and Support Services to Young People with a Cognitive Disability and/or Mental Health Disorder in NSW Child Protection and Out-of-home-care government and non-government agencies.

The service is between a Mentor and a Young Person with a Cognitive Disability and/or Mental Health Disorder, for the purposes of reducing risk of harm behaviours and improving personal development. The program seeks to be culturally competent and meet the needs of Aboriginal Young People.

The individualised program is implemented by a Mentor who is a case management specialist. The Mentor has extensive experience working with Young People who have risk of harm and/or problem behaviours. The Mentor supports the Young Person to, • Build capabilities and strengths toward personal development. • Develop mental toughness, push past barriers and make things happen.
When in crisis it is up to the Mentor to support the Young Person to implement crisis management strategies. If the Young Person does not resolve the crisis, the Mentor is available to intervene, and provide crisis support until the risk has ceased.

The Mentor Program is accessed through NDIS Core and Capacity Funding. Please see attached Service Summary for further information.
