Department of Psychological Medicine, Children's Hospital Westmead

Service Description

Psychological Medicine is a tertiary mental health service providing assessment and treatment for children and young people up to the age of 16 years. Services include: Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit, Eating Disorders inpatient, day and outpatient services, inpatient rehabilitation service for functional somatic symptoms, mental health assessment and treatment for patients admitted to our medical wards, and general outpatient services. The Department is also home to the State-wide Mental Health Intellectual Disability Service and School-Link. Areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, self-harm, psychosis, behavioural disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, functional somatic disorders, eating disorders, and psychological disorders associated with chronic illness/medical conditions. Family therapy, individual psychotherapy, cognitive and behavioural treatments and medication are offered.
