Service Description

A large public hospital and teaching and referral centre with 379 beds. It maintains a large Emergency Department, Critical Care, and specific area for ICE users. The hospital participates in research and has several specialty units that are recognised as centres of excellence on an international level. It includes Heart and Lung Transplantation, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Cardiology, Cancer Care, AIDS/HIV treatment, Respiratory Medicine, Mental Health, Gambling Treatment, and Drug and Alcohol treatment and facilities for inpatient and outpatient. It provides Geriatric Care, General Medicine and Surgical, Intensive Care, Aboriginal Health Services, Nuclear Medicine, Trauma, Rehabilitation, and several others. It is associated with the O'Brien Centre of Mental Health Services, including Community Mental Health, and Sacred Heart Rehabilitation and Hospice Units.
