ACT Ombudsman

Service Description

The ACT Ombudsman, also the Commonwealth Ombudsman, can help you resolve complaints about ACT Government agencies and ACT Policing. You can complain about unfair decisions, delays, or service, including from custody at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC), Bimberi Youth Justice Centre, or police watch houses. If you disagree with an ACT Freedom of Information (FOI) decision, you can ask us for a merits review (our decisions can be appealed). You can complain to us, as Inspector, about the ACT Integrity Commission and its staff. We also receive disclosures made under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2012 (PID Act). As Principal Officer we can receive complaints about the conduct or capacity of ACT judicial officers. Additionally, we administer the Reportable Conduct Scheme, inspect ACT Policing’s use of covert powers and the child sex offenders register, and visit places of detention to prevent ill treatment as part of the ACT National Preventive Mechanism (NPM).
