NSW Police Force Mental Health Intervention Team

Service Description

The aim of the program is to improve awareness amongst front line police of the risks involved in the interaction between police and mental health consumers. Police undergo a 4 day training package to become accredited specilaist Mental Health Intervention Officers. Seeks to educate Police in identifying behaviours in the field that are indicative of mental illness, and provide them with tools and crisis intervention techniques to manage them, as well as understanding the current Mental Health Act.
